A theatre review by the students of 4è1 : Agatha Christie’s Crime Lesson
On Thursday 6th March we went to Paris with the class to watch a play entitled Agatha Christie’s Crime Lesson . We took the train. The theatre is located in Paris in the 4th district. The theater is in a courtyard and it is very small. The name of the theatre is « Café de la Gare ». The theatre was founded in 1969. The audience was composed of students. The public was enthusiastic.The name of the troupe is « Compagnie OZ ». It’s an English-speaking troupe.
The director is Ken Stracevic, he is American. In this troupe, the actors are also singers and dancers. In this play, the actors are Ken Starcevic, Stéphanie Gercompré and Karin Gluck.
This play is a « crime lesson » presented by Agatha Christie and Alfred Hitchock.
They give a lecture to the public.There are nine characters who play in a manor. These nine characters are looking for the same murderer but he’s actually one of them.
Agatha Christie is the author. Alfred Hitchcok is the film director. Miss Cordelia Pierce is the personal assistant. Lord Harold Trockmorton is Cecily’s father. Miss Hetherington is Throckmorton’s neighbour. Reginald « Reggie » is Cecily’s fiancé. Demetrius Popopolous is the antique art dealer. Tallulah Carlisle is Cecily’s aunt . Buford ardiman is the detective. Giles is the unseen butler.
To identify the different characters, there are different costumes. For example,Lord Trockmorton always wears a bathrobe, he has a walking stick and glasses. Miss Hetherington wears a hat, an apron and wellies. Cecily wears a dress and a necklace.
Miss pierce wears a whig, a blazer and a dress.
Agathe christie wears a whig and a coat .
Reggie wears a necklace and trousers .
Alfred Hitchcock wears a hat .
There are also some objects on stage : a spear , a spade, a phone, dynamite, a knife, a cup, glasses, whisky and wine, a gun, a book and there is a table.
There are lots of light effects . When a character is singing the light falls vertically ; when there is suspense there is a light coming from the back. The lighting depends on the sound effects . When the light is purple there is some scary music . There is smoke when the moments are frightening . When a person wants to kill someone we hear a muffled sound .
We enjoyed the play !
