Une comédie musicale à Paris…in English! A theatre review by the 4è2 pupils.

On Thursday 30 th January, we went to Paris to see a musical in English ! Its title is Frankenstein’s Folly. The show took place at the Café de la Gare.

The director is Ken Starcevic and he also plays Victor Frankenstein. Lexie Baker plays Justine and Elizabeth Lavenza. Mitch Riley plays Henry Clerval.

In the story, the main characters are Igor, Victor Von Frankenstein, Justine, Henry Clerval, Frau Mueller, the Creature and Elizabeth Lavenza. Igor is a gravedigger, Henry Clerval is Victor’s friend, Justine is a student and a lab assistant, Frankenstein is a scientist and Frau Mueller a housekeeper. Justine, Henry and Victor would like to create a New Prometheus. But the experiment fails. Elizabeth doesn’t agree with Victor Von Frankenstein because she says Victor spends all his time in his laboratory to experiment and he doesn’t spend enough time with her. And Frau Mueller doesn’t like Elizabeth.

On stage, there were several sets: Frankenstein’s castle, Victor Frankenstein’s laboratory and a little cemetery. The stage was little.

The costumes were well-made. Igor was dressed in rags. Victor Frankenstein and Henry had elegant costumes. Elizabeth had an amazing costume, with lots of colors. The costumes corresponded to the time period of the story.

There were lights of different colors when there was lightning. And when the characters were on stage, there was white light on them but when the actors came among the audience, they had a torch with orange light. When the decor was a cemetery, it was dark and there was smoke.

There was a scary song when the monster was on stage. There was a sound effect when there was lightning. The mood of the show was very funny and dark. There were different sound effects when they experimented and when they danced.
The actors had a very good vocal quality.
There were a lot of body movements and really good dancers.

The show was very interesting because it was funny, scary and lovely.
It was very engaging because the music and the dance were very entertaining.

The 4è2 students.
